WEEKEND TANGKAK-JOHOR GETAWAY WITH GROUP OF 25! December 2018

HOW IT GOT STARTED

Annually we‘ll try to plan a year end family trip for our family which consist of nearly 20-30 pax! Not easy especially when it comes to accommodation that can match us all, we need to think of the place where we need to eat, the activities to do etc.

After our last Mount Ophir Trek (Gunung Ledang) in July , we get to realised there are so many waterfalls at that area! and there are so many types of home stay suitable for big groups! thus we are thinking, this might be suitable for our big family if we just going for the waterfalls which should be manageable for all of them.

Then we start to ask who will be joining and starts to find a suitable accommodation.

Sad to know that the accommodation we stayed before was booked on the dates we wanted. Actually very surprised that Tangkak is so popular! Then we begin to search on FB, cost range from RM550 to RM1000, quite a wide range!

ACCOMODATION SETTLED

After some searching, finally we agreed on "Tangkak Home Stay", a 5 bedroom Bungalow.

We communicated with the host for some time and as his price was right for us and it suitable for our big group. a 5 room Bungalow, it can sleep about 25-30pax! Its very near from the Toll, about 8 mins drive and a 17mins drive to Gunung Ledang.

WAITING FOR THE DAY TO COME!

Finally the day has arrived for our trip, some of members had already reach JB on Friday night while some travel from SG to JB on Sat morning!

Thankfully we have enough cars to drive us from JB to Tangkak, we started around 8am from Johor Bahru!

FAMOUS KARI KAMBING FOR LUNCH

One of uncle, brought us for a super crowded Nasi Briyan ''Restoran" for lunch! we have been to Batu Pahat for a few times since my its my mom's hometown, we never take notice of this restoran!

Its located along the North-South Expressway (NSE) near the Ayer Hitam exit in Yong Peng, it is very popular among bikers as they made this place as one of their pit stop. There is a super long queue when we are there and its very hard to find a table for a group of 15! 2 of my aunts started to queue while the rest of us looked for seats.

We ordered 2 big plates of Nasi with chicken, and 1 big plate with mutton. 1 big plate is good for 4-5pax to share!

This is how BIG is 1 portion that is meant for Sharing, there are options for single portion too

The mutton definitely taste much better than the chicken!! as its more flavourful . Do give it a try when you are passing by the highway!

TANGKAK

Then we moved on to our destination! We reached Tangkak's toll around 1pm. We then use our GPS to locate the Home Stay! surprisingly its very near to toll! Just a few mins drive. We call up the uncle to pass us the keys and explain to us the house rules! the house is indeed big for our group!! We did not feel there are 25pax in the house! There are extra mattress, blankets and clean bedsheets! After settling down for 30mins, we went to our key activities of this trip! The waterfall!

The drive to the waterfall fall took about 20mins, take note not to turn into the main entrance which shows GUNGUNG LEDANG, that is the entrance for the trek to the top of Gunung Ledang, Unless you want to trek. We will share our experience on the trek in another post!

Just another few mins down the road, we can see the signage to guide us to the entrance of the waterfall.

After we arrived, we took a short walk into the waterfall area. For some of us with kids, we decided not to climb up to the higher part of the waterfall.

WHAT TO BRING

Here are the packing list on the things you might need to bring

- Insect repellent

- Picnic Mat

- Snacks, Fruits

- Plastics Bags to throw your rubbish

- Fish Net (for playing)

- Swim Suit

- Slippers

- Camera

- Bathing necessities as there is a toilet where you can take a shower, need a pay a fee to use it

Some of us decided to explore what is at the higher side of the waterfall. After a leisure hike up for approximately 20 minutes, we were taken away by the cleanliness and quietness of the waterfall. Where we then took our time to take some photos as we have the place all to ourselves!

After a couple of hours there, we decided to leave this place, might come back again to explore other parts of the waterfall.

We went back to our homestay to take a quick shower and went to have our dinner.

Be sure to call in to make reservation if you come in a big group. As this restaurant is one of the more reputable and crowded venue for dinner. And do ask if they are having any wedding banquet to host, otherwise you might need to wait for a long time for the food. This happens to us and we waited nearly 1.5hrs to have our food served.

However overall the dishes are nice and tasty!

After dinner, its back to the homestay for chit chatting and mahjong session!

After breakfast and some slacking, its time to go home.. some of us proceed back to Singapore, some went to Batu Pahat.

It was a short getaway and we are glad most of us can make it for this short trip! till the next one!
